Nicolás Melmann explores the social and poetic aspects of sound in his transdisciplinary projects, experiments with technology, creating linear and non-linear narratives, working in different media. His music & sound installations proposes contemplative temporalities that evoke fragility and intimacy as a space of resistance to capitalism's demand for instantaneity and productivity, exploring emotionality to challenge the mandates of “heteronormative masculinity. Melmann has has been active as an artist for more than 18 years, released six albums, and toured in Asia, Europe, and North and South America. He has shown his work in numerous venues and festivals, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art of New York (US), the Victoria and Albert Museum (UK), the Polytechnic Museum (Russia), Seoul Museum of Art (South Korea), Denver Museum of Contemporary Art (US), Mutek, Sónar, Gamma Festival (RU), among others. He has also worked as a curator of lenguajes sonoros and held art residencies at the Red Bull Music Academy (US), ZKM – Zentrum Für Kunst und Medien (Germany), AIR (Austria), STEIM (NL), Château Ephémère (FR) and Asylum Arts (US), among others. He has shared the stage with artists such as Alva Noto & Ryuichi Sakamoto, Nicola Cruz, Robert Lippok, Loscil, Matias Aguayo, Lydia Lunch, Max Cooper, and Richard Devine among others. This perfomance will be the premiere of the new interactive album “Musica Aperta” to be released in vinyl by the label Umor Rex (Mexico) in April 2025. The album “Música Aperta” explores the idea of unfinished music or open to be modified by the listener, it has an interactive/online version where you can mix the album yourself and create your version, and it also has an audiovisual-reactive interface that creates images that respond to the behavior of the music. It is inspired by the concept of Erik Satie's Furniture Music and can approach what we could call ambient / drone music.
